General
We have different amounts of students ranging from 15 to 20+ per class. However, our maximum class size is 20 for the foundation stage, 25 for primary & secondary.
They are a combination of Malaysian and foreign students. While our largest national group is Malaysian, we currently have 18 nationalities in the school. We are a school of many nations but a family of one.
Around 70% of our teachers are expatriate teachers from the UK and around the world. Around 30% are local teachers/teacher assistants. They are all qualified teacher graduates with teaching certifications. You can see their profiles here.
We are providing English Language Learning (ELL) supported by the English as an Additional Language team as well as all our teaching staff. The child will be excused from some non-core subjects to enhance their English language skills with ELL teacher. They will be taught grammar, listening, writing, reading, and speaking skills.
Teachers will observe students’ day-to-day performances. If there is any student that requires extra attention, help will be provided to them during the school day and through our Co-Curricular programme. All students are encouraged to ask/clarify with the teachers should they need any help. Private tuition by our teachers after school is not permitted nor is it professionally correct.
Curriculum
For our Foundation Stage, we combine direct teaching with a development approach following the English National Curriculum Early Years Foundation Stage – Development Matters. In Primary, we use an enhanced form of the English National Curriculum and Cambridge International Examination Primary Curriculum. This allows our students to proceed in a seamless manner to the secondary where they are prepared to take on the challenges of IGCSE and A-Levels.
School progress reports will be shared roughly every 6-7 weeks with two full written reports in December and June. There are also two formal parent-teacher conferences. Teachers also take a proactive approach to email and update parents about their children regularly during each term. However, dialogue is open and encouraged. Should you have any concerns, parents are welcome to set an appointment with teachers to discuss academic performance or school life.
Homework is based on necessity, it’s set in order to reinforce learning from the classroom, practice new skills, inspire new ideas, find information and develop the independent study. Teachers will give sufficient time to complete the homework.
There are formative & summative assessments throughout the year. Nevertheless, teachers do not reply on assessment to understand students’ progress but also draw from day-to-day observations as well as regular classwork and ongoing in-class formative assessments.
