Why Our A Level Programme
The final two years of school significantly shape and prepare your child for the years post-secondary. At this stage, they will have a greater responsibility in designing their curriculum around their strengths, competencies and interests. This introduces them to the decision-making process that will become a significant part of their lives. Your child will be encouraged to seek support when selecting the subjects to suit their requirements or to match their graduation expectations.
In Year 12 and 13, our vision is to ensure that our students stand out from the crowd, not only with great grades but with the skills to thrive in the 21st century. We live in a world of accelerating change. New industries are constantly being born as old ones become obsolete. Understanding these trends, we are committed to ensuring our students have the understanding and application of knowledge to maximise their success in the world of the future.
Our mission is to enhance your child’s capacity for high achievement by empowering them to attain the knowledge, skills, confidence and values that are characteristic of successful leaders.
During Year 12 and 13, we strive to provide not only the best teaching for academic success but a commitment to quality curriculum enrichment. Each student is provided with an expanded learning experience to attain increased qualifications that enhance both their university applications and career aspirations. Lessons are personalised for your child, allowing them to build on their individual aspirations and optimise their strengths and abilities.
An extensive enrichment programme runs at BXCL to allow your child the opportunity to experience and discover new areas of interest and competency beyond the classroom. The enrichment programme is built around the following areas. Our expert staff work with students to provide the following learning options
This offers a range of leadership roles to our Sixth Form students, tailored to their interests and strengths; most of the roles involve working directly with younger students and they are designed to be fulfilling and rewarding for the students involved, as well as the younger students they are interacting with.
The Extended Project (EPQ) is a single piece of work of a student’s choosing that required evidence of planning, preparation, research and independent learning. The EPQ gives A Level students excellent preparation for university-level study and helps to boost their applications to further education institutions abroad.
The Duke of Edinburgh is one of the most prestigious international award programmes for students 14 years of age and above. Participants design their own programme based on three key areas: Community Service, Physical Recreation and Personal Skills. The Award is divided into three stages: Bronze, Silver, and Gold, each having a set of requirements to fulfill. Students will also complete an adventurous journey as part of the award. Despite the award being non-competitive and voluntary in nature, it challenges participants to set, as well as reflect, on authentic and progressive goals relating to their own personal growth. Taking part in the international award will allow students to engage with their environment and interact with other societies.
BXCL is an official licensed Independent Award Centre (IAC) for The Duke of Edinburgh International Award. As a result, students have the opportunity to take part in The Duke of Edinburgh’s award at BXCL Advanced Learning Centre promoting the school as an avenue for creating life-long learners through authentic experiences and continued application of academic excellence in society.
Our Physical Education (Sports) programme is a recreational programme designed around a healthy and active lifestyle, with a focus on fun, development and social engagement. Most sports take place on campus with like-minded people in a friendly, non-competitive environment.
BXCL offers an informal, friendly and supportive learning environment that helps our students gain a well-balanced education, while still achieving their full academic potential. Our pastoral care system provides students with the support they require in order to be able to focus on their studies and subsequently progress to competitive degrees at leading universities. We help them identify possible career paths and assist in the university application process.
All our students are assigned a personal tutor, who closely monitors their progress and welfare. Personal tutors keep track of the lesson attendance, punctuality and academic performance of the students for whom they are responsible. They also act as the first point of contact for any questions or concerns that students or their parents may have.
At BXCL, we allow our students the necessary freedom to develop as independent learners, but we also expect them to follow our rules. In addition to helping students with any problems they may encounter, personal tutors can also provide extra support, if required, when students are underperforming. Should this arise, personal tutors meet weekly with students to ensure targets are set and that progress is monitored even more closely.
By this stage in your child’s learning journey, individual competencies have been developed significantly. As the pursuit of individual excellence is our commitment, the range of subjects available for students to study at this level is broad and wide.
